Conrad Fleming Obituary

Conrad M. Fleming
03/21/1934 - 01/09/2021
Conrad M. Fleming, 86, of Saylorsburg PA, died Saturday, January 9, 2021 at home from natural causes. He was born in Boston on March 21, 1934 to Mason B. and Pauline (Atner), and raised in South Weymouth, MA. As a boy, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts of America's highest rank. He was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1951. Following graduation, Conrad served in the U.S. Army, earned a B.A. degree from Northeastern University (with honor), and established a career in the insurance industry. Circa 1970, Conrad pursued his dream of working professionally for the Boy Scouts of America, spending 19 years working directly in the field in CT and NYC before shifting to fundraising and special events.
Following his retirement in 2001, Conrad moved from NYC to Saylorsburg and served as an active member of the Robinwood Village HOA Board. He took great joy in interacting with his neighbors, including weekly pool games where by all accounts he played by his own "unique" set of rules. He also enjoyed music, movies, and reading.
Conrad was the loving father of one son, Michael C. and his wife Mara of Wilton, CT.; loving grandfather of his six grandchildren: Alexandra of Jamesburg, NJ, and Amelia, Ava, Maximillian, Eric, & Shane of Wilton, CT. Survivors include his brother, Mason Fleming and his wife Pat of Canyon Lake, Texas, as well as his beloved nieces Debra L. and her husband William Primmerman of Cornville Maine, and Laura B. and her husband Robert Cannon Sr. of Plymouth, MA. He is also survived by his grand-nephew Jacob Primmerman, of New York City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister & brother-in-law Sherrard "Sherry" MacDonald & Norman L. MacDonald
Due to COVID, a memorial will be held virtually, with a date in the coming weeks t/b/d.
Donations in his memory can be made to two of his favorite charities: your local Boy Scout Council, and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (https://www.waxmancancer.org/donate/).

I had the pleasure of working with Conrad in the 90's with the Scouts. We also shared many celebratory moments as a result of our many successful fundraising campaigns. I looked up to him and regarded him as a friend and mentor, we shared a Massachusetts heritage and that sense of humor often laced with sarcasm. We enjoyed many an evening after work and on weekends enjoying each others company. He could not have been more supportive of me and a whole generation of us who had worked at the BSA. We loved him and will miss him terribly.
