Florence Burnside Obituary

Florence Marilyn Burnside, 75, of Bedford, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, at her home after a short illness.

She was the loving wife of her late husband, Robert J. Burnside. They were married 39 years.

Born May 22, 1933, in Dover, N.J., Florence was a daughter of the late Leo William Miller and Stella Fichter Miller.

Florence worked for 13 years as a record tester for R.C.A. of Rockaway, N.J. She and Robert were active members of Elks Lodge # 782 of Dover, N.J., for many years. They retired to Effort in 1989. She has been a Bedford resident since 2005. She was a member of Blue Ridge Community Church, and she loved working puzzles, fixing scrapbooks and shopping.

"Aunt Flo" is survived by her brother, Roy Miller and his wife, Marion, of Dover, N.J.; her sister, Gladys Garrison, of Lynchburg, Va.; a nephew, Warren Garrison and his wife, Donna, of Flanders, N.J., and his daughters, Rachael and Kathleen; a niece, Wanda Gilmartin and her husband, Robert, of Bedford and her two sons, Kevin and Ryan; Wanda's daughters, Amy Hudkins and her husband, Brian, of Orlando, Fla., and Dana Eames and her husband, Jeff, of Bedford, Va. She was a "great-great-aunt" to Dana's children, Benjamin, Braiden and Lily.

A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church in Dover, N.J., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bedford Hospice House, P.O. Box 985, Bedford, VA 24523.
