George Saltzman Obituary

George Saltzman, 91, of Delaware Water Gap, died Thursday morning, Sept. 9, at his daughter's home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Waterman) Saltzman, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage on April 24, 2010.

Born on Aug. 13, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Engle) Saltzman and lived in New York, N.Y., and Antwerp, Belgium, before moving to Monroe County.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.

George started in the diamond business at the age of 28 as a diamond sawyer on 47th Street in New York City. He became president of Faceted Hearts in New York, Belgium and Israel. He was the inventor of the faceted heart-shaped diamond and also invented a portable dental machine for mobile use.

He was talented beyond belief and could do anything including electrical, plumbing, songwriting, landscaping and building.

Whether he was known as George, Norman, Dad, Grandpa, Gramps or Mr. S., he was a gentle man and a gentleman. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with patience and who was filled with love and was sheer perfection.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rachelle Kuschner, and her husband, Ed, of Shawnee-on-Delaware; three grandchildren, Jordan Waring of Watchung, N.J., Brandon Waring of Cumming, Ga., and Ryan Waring of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two granddogs, Zoe and Clyde-Bailey; eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Amster of Austin, Texas, and a brother, Ned Salzman of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. Private burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Shivah will be observed from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, Monday, Sept. 13, and Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Rachelle Kuschner's home on River Road in Shawnee-on-Delaware.

Dear Gram, Mom and family,
I just wanted you all to know how much I loved Gramps. He was the only grandfather I ever had. I loved just sitting and holding his soft, warm hands. I loved listening to his kind and gentle voice. I loved seeing the smile on his face when we'd walk through the door. And I loved how much he loved us unconditionally. My heart grieves and weeps with you. And I will keep praying for you all to find peace in your memories of him.
