Janice R. Frano Fichtner, 76, of Tannersville, died Tuesday in Pocono Medical Center. She was the widow of Theodore Frano, deceased 1961, and Karl Fichtner, deceased 1995.Born in Greentown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ruth (Crocker) Zacharias. She was a resident of Tannersville since 1988. Prior to that, she lived in Shandaken, N.Y.A 1947 graduate of Greene-Dreher High School, Newfoundland, she was a member of the Auxiliary of Shandaken-Allaben Hose Company.In addition, she was an avid pinochle player, loved gardening, canning, crossword puzzles and making maple syrup, but especially loved her family.
Surviving are three daughters, Lorraine German and Wendy Fichtner, both of Tannersville, and Vanessa Frano of Greentown; three sons, Dennis Frano of Shandaken, N.Y., Dale Frano of Analomink, and Wayne Fichtner of Grand Gorge, N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Mary Vetter of Blue Point, N.Y.; one stepson, William Fichtner of Willow, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Heberling of Stroudsburg, Ellen Carr of Newfoundland, and Dawn A. Krautter of Stroudsburg; and one brother, Edmund (Zeke) Zacharias of Stroudsburg. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles; sisters, Katherine Carr and Anna Mae Zacharias; and stepdaughter, Kathy Fichtner.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, Route 191, Village of LaAnna, South Sterling. Interment will be in Greentown Cemetery.Friends may call from noon until time of the services on Friday at the funeral home.Memorial remembrances may be made to Central Pocono Ambulance Corps, Tannersville, PA 18372; or Shandaken-Allaben Hose Company, Shandaken, NY 12480.
