Born on April 25, 1913, in Forty Fort, he was the son of Frank and Mary (Leitinger) Kopechne.
Joe served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 and 1936. During World War II, he worked at the shipyards in New Jersey.
He worked for Washington National Life Insurance Company most of his life and lived in New Jersey during that period. He and Gwen moved back to Pennsylvania in 1973 and lived in Laurel Springs in Swiftwater for 28 years until they moved to East Stroudsburg.
Joe was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and attended Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville. He was an avid tennis player for most of his life and enjoyed sports events of all kinds.
Joe's only child, MaryJo Kopechne, predeceased him in 1969.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Raymond Kopechne, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Vincents de Paul, Roman Catholic Church on Church Street, Plymouth, Pa. Rev. Donald Williams, officiating.

The loss of your loved one is always something that you think you cannot get over. Now that Joseph has passed, he's with Mary Jo. Perhaps he'll learn the truth about what really happened when she was taken from us. God Bless and God bless their souls.
