Michael McKeown Obituary

Michael J. McKeown
9/4/1926 - 5/11/2021
Michael J. McKeown, 94, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday morning, May 11, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital - Monroe Campus in Bartonsville.
Born on September 4, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Lavelle) McKeown.
He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army in the Initial Occupation in Osaka, Japan; and was part of the 25th Infantry having regularly attended their reunions.
Mike began his career in real estate in 1950 and in 1974 established the family business, McKeown Real Estate in Stroudsburg in which he remained active until his death.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of the Poconos - Daybreak.
Mike loved life and always had a joke to tell. He was the life of the party and always looked for the bright side of people and situations. As he was fond of saying "I never had a bad day", he strove to turn the bad into tolerable for all who knew him. In his later years, he loved going to his favorite diner "Beseckers", where he cherished the people who worked there and made him feel at home. He even wrote a book about his life's experiences and showed us that all is possible.
Surviving are five sons, Michael Patrick McKeown and fiance Dora Vynnytsky of Hamilton, NJ, Barry Joseph McKeown and wife Denise of Chicago, IL, Thomas G. McKeown and wife Janice of East Stroudsburg, Charles "Casey" F. McKeown and wife Elizabeth of Stroudsburg and Mark Anthony McKeown of Stroudsburg; a step-daughter, Andrea LaBar and husband Ronald of East Stroudsburg; eight grandchildren, Coleen, Michele, Michael, Joseph, Tracy, Tara, Kataryn and Jessica; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena (Graziano) McKeown in 2014; his fiance, Ann Mayo in 2019; and five siblings, John, Ann, Mary, Joseph and, Charles.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 15, from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with viewing beginning at noon followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM with Rev. Candy LaBar officiating. Private cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Keller's Cherry Valley Cemetery.

The saying, ‘To know him was to love him,’ is so true for Mike. My mom introduced me to Mike a few years ago. When visiting my mom we would take a walk and hope that we would see Mike on our walk. Mike was a sweetheart and our day was made better chatting with Mike.
Mike, you made everyone you met smile. You did a great job here on earth and you will be missed. We are sad.
Rest In Peace Mike.

My sincere condolences in the loss of you father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mike was one of my neighbors here at Meadows in Labar and a dear man who always had a kind word. A true optimist who always had a joke to lift my day. He will be missed

Michael to hear the news of your passing is a complete shock to us at the guard house at Labar Village and to me personally. As I have gotten to know you over the last 4 years as site supervisor it has been an honor and privilege to be one of the guards. You have gone out of your way to stop by and wave everyday that you came in from work and may times stopped by the guard house and say thank you for all we do. I will surely miss your phone calls saying who is coming in and the funny jokes that you said to me that had me laughing all day long. I can only hope that I am half the man that you are. I know you are up there with your family looking down on us and I'm sure you ae making everyone laugh. Fly high my friend. Till we meet again.
