Robert S. "Early Riser" Compton Sr., 71, of Roseto, died Sunday, Feb. 19, at Easton Nursing Center in Easton.
Born on June 11, 1934, in Mount Bethel, he was the son of the late Clyde M. and Myrtle Yohe Compton.
He was employed as a truck driver at Penn-Jersey Paving in Mount Bethel until retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he drove for J.A. Kroninger and L.F. Taylor Inc., both in Mount Bethel.
He served in the United States Army National Guard.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Riker of East Stroudsburg and Tina Compton of Roseto; a son, Robert S. Compton Jr., of Bangor; a sister, Evelyn Miksch of Blairstown, N.J.; three brothers, Warne Compton of Bangor, Douglas Compton Sr. of Bangor, and Edward Compton Sr. of Bangor; six grandchildren, Robert L. Compton Sr. and his wife, Shannon, Michael Compton, Brad Compton, Samantha Kindred, Willis Kindred Jr. and Stephanie Kindred; and two great-grandchildren, Robert L. Compton Jr. and Austin Compton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Clyde Compton.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, in the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 314 S. First St., Bangor. Call Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
