Susan Apgar Obituary
She was born on Sept. 30, 1963, in Montclair, N.J. She was the daughter of Barbara J. VanBuskirk of Saint Cloud, Fla., and the late Carl E. VanBuskirk.
Susan was employed by Osceola County School Disrict as a teacher at Boggy Creek Elementary from 2004 to 2010, before going on medical leave.
Susan served on the board of directors for Crisis Pregnacy Center of the Poconos. She also served as leader and director of Awana Youth Clubs at Calvary Bible Church in East Stroudsburg.
Susan started her teaching career at Pocono Christian School in 1988. She also taught at East Stroudsburg Christian Academy, Good Shepherd Christian School, Washington, N.J., and Faith Christian School in Roseto before moving to Saint Cloud, Fla.
Susan graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. She also attended East Stroudsburg University, Maranatha Bible College and recently received her master's degree in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University.
In addition to her mother, Barbara, she is survived by her sister, Judy Ann Karpowich, and her husband, Barry, of Saint Cloud, Fla., brothers Mark Anthony VanBuskirk and his wife, Hilary, of Andreas, and Matthew Wayne VanBuskirk and his wife, Marcelyn, of Sciota; nephews Timothy, Stephen and Matthew VanBuskirk, Joshua Karpowich, and Evan Carl VanBuskirk; great-nephew Cole James McKenzie; and niece Candace VanBuskirk.
Family and friends are invited to a calling period from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg.
The Rev. Christpher Smith will officate the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideon International, P.O. Box 758, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 or Faith Christian School Susan Apgar Memorial Scholarship Fund, 122 Dante St., Roseto, PA 18013.

Sue was the one of the kindness and compassionate people I have known. She made an amazing impact on my children, not even as a teacher and coach, but in our personal life. As for me, she was a true friend. We taught together, her kindergarten and my preschool. The patience and love she showed to my son will always be forever in my heart. She saw his abilities, not his disability , and made him shine. I love and miss you Sue.

Dear Barbara, Judy and family,
Susan was a pleasure to be with. We had many good chats during our hours at Boggy Creek Elementary while working after school and on Saturdays. She will be missed by many, but I know she is at peace and without pain.

I am praying for the family and loved ones. Sue was more than just a mentor to me in high school. She was like another older sister, and friend. I truly loved and adored her. I am relieved that she is no longer in pain, but I truly mourn for our loss. I loved her laugh, her humor, and her kind heart. I will miss her. I know that I will see her in heaven. I'm sure she is talking with her dad, and maybe even mine.
