Walter A. Beers, 76, of Cresco, died Wednesday, June 1, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Margaret (Pinard) Beers, to whom he was married for 52 years.
Born in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Walter A. Beers, Sr. and Margaret (Motzenbecker) Beers. Raised in South Orange, N.J., Walter raised his family in Morris County, N.J., and moved to the Poconos four years ago.
Before his retirement, he was a sales manager for New Jersey Bell Yellow Pages in Morris County, N.J.
He was a member of Saint Bernadette's Church in Canadensis.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 922, Canadensis, and an active alumnus of Saint Anselmn College, Manchester, N.H. He loved skiing, wind-surfing and kayaking, and was active in these sports until his illness.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by a son, Steven M. Beers and his wife, Marie, of Randolf, N.J.; three daughters, Lynn B. Garatty and her husband, Robert, of Mount Arlington, N.J.; Kathryn B. Wheeler and her husband, George, of Big Pine Key, Fla.; and Judith B. Snyder and her husband, Jeffrey, of Yardley; a brother, Robert Beers of Clinton, N.J.; three sisters, Barbara B. Oberle and her husband, Louis, of Manasquan, N.J.; Elaine B. Becker and her husband, Karl, of Short Hills, N.J.; and Linda B. Bryant of Berwyn; five grandchildren, Jaime Sanchelli of Whippany, N.J., Mindy Ann Beers of Philadelphia, Aimee Snyder and Daniel Snyder of Yardley, and Troy W. Beers of Randolf, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Father Alfred Vito will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at St. Bernadette's Church, Canadensis.
There will be a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, at Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 and 390 in Paradise Valley. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
