William T. Clancy III, 64, of Fredon Township, died on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J.
Born in Orange, N.J., Mr. Clancy lived in Lake Hopatcong, before moving to Fredon Township 33 years ago. Mr. Clancy graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1968 with a BS in Health Education and Driver Education, then received his Masters in Education from Jersey City State College in Jersey City in 1982. A former physical education teacher for the Hopatcong Board of Education, he retired five years ago with 30 years of service. He also taught driver education at Hopatcong High School. He had previously taught special education in Hardyston for two years. He was the head wrestling coach for Hopatcong High School from 1969 to 1980, with one undefeated season. Mr. Clancy was a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at Kittatinny Regional High School in 2006. He was also a former volunteer coach for Little League for the Stillwater and Fredon Recreation League, a former member of Sussex County 4-H Shepherd's Club, and a former member of the Fredon Township Rescue Squad.
The son of the late William T. Clancy II and Mabel V. Ball Clancy, Mr. Clancy was also predeceased by a brother, Steven Clancy. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Diane S. Clancy; two sons, William T. Clancy IV and his wife, Michelle of Richmond, Va., and Michael S. Clancy of Fredon Township; one 17-month-old grandson, Liam M. Clancy; two brothers, The Honorable Thomas E. Clancy, Esq. and his wife, Margaret Peggy of Bound Brook, and Edward T. Clancy and his wife, Doris of West Caldwell; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
A memorial viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.

Was saddened to hear of Bill's passing. We remember him for his love of Border Collies; my mother-in-law Lois Ward purchased one from Bill.
I also remember his patience with his driver-ed students - I know I couldn't have done it!
