DODD, SR., 83

WINTER HAVEN - Myron W. Dodd, Sr., age 83, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016. He was born February 5, 1933, in Rome, GA, the son of Willis Robert Dodd and Nora Velma Crowe Dodd. He was a member of the Winter Haven Fire Department and a member of Grace Pointe Church.
Myron joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, and served through 1956, during the Korean War, on the USS Boxer as a Firefighter, Aircraft Rescue. From 1956-1966, he was Crew Chief at Nance Air Force Base in Enid, OK. After moving to Winter Haven in 1967, he was hired by the Winter Haven Fire Department where he was promoted to Lieutenant on November 1, 1969, and to Captain on August 2, 1972. He was promoted to Deputy Chief on March 6, 1978, and served as Deputy Chief until June 23, 1989. He was selected as Firefighter of the year in February of 1989. He also served on the department as an Underwater Rescue Diver and received the VFW certificate of appreciation for the Rescue and Recovery Squad.
In addition to his parents, Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Earp Dodd; son, Myron W. Dodd, Jr.; grandson, Christopher Williams; and brothers, Robert Dodd and Gary Dodd. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Williams (Steve) of Lakeland; son, Kenneth W. Dodd (Barbi) of Winter Haven; sisters, Martha Weaver of Winter Haven, Judy Hester of Newberry, Dianne Henson of Winter Haven, and Cynthia Willis of Lake Alfred; grandchildren, Mallory Mannix (Jason) of Winter Haven, Megan Dodd of Winter Haven, William Williams (Brittany) of Lakeland, Kayla Dodd of Winter Haven, Madeleine Dodd of Lakeland, Dawson Dodd of Lakeland, Brittney Dodd of Winter Haven, and Paula Taylor of TX; and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:00 am at the Grace Pointe Church. Burial to follow in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fireman's Benevolent Association.
