Edith Eis Obituary

Rancho Bernardo Edith Eis, 96, loving mother, grandmother and friend to many, left us on December 17, 2017. Born in 1921 in Munich, Germany, to Joseph and Rosalie Guenzburger, she spent a happy childhood in Memmingen, Germany, and then escaped the Nazi regime in 1938, emigrating to Sweden. Two years later, Edith traveled across Siberia to Japan, where she crossed the Pacific aboard the Kamakura Maru. She met her future husband, Maurice Eis on her voyage to San Francisco. They married after the war and lived in Chicago for 45 years before moving to Rancho Bernardo, where she enjoyed living for 25 years.Edith's baking skills were revered worldwide and she was written up in the Washington Post in 2005, highlighting her famous plum torte recipe.Her life was an epitome of unconditional love, kindness and generosity.Edith is survived by her children, Margie (Daniel) Aghion of New York City and Rick (Rachel) Eis of San Diego; and five grandchildren who adored her, Zachary, Benjamin, Matthew, Steven and Lauren; as well as her brother, Gad Ginosar and wife Sara, residing in Haifa, Israel, they will remember and love her always.Memorial donations may be made to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, www.HMM.org Please sign the guest book online at legacy.com/obituaries/ pomeradonews .
