What a great human being. I was privileged to meet Peter when I was a waitress at Universal Studios Commissary. I worked there for 9 1/2 years before going into the property dept. as a set dresser. Peter and a couple of his co-workers were my customers over the years. I later was hired at Lorimar filmed at Warner Bros. Studios, kept in contact with he and Sally by Christmas cards. We kept in touch with occasional letters, he was as close as a mentor could be, encouraging me to always take the high road. He was a great influence for me, and I greatly respected his input. Once he moved to Rancho Bernardo, we continued occasional correspondence. At one point, I wrote a letter, to which he wrote back, a real letter, not just some text or email, etc. He kept in touch always telling me about his family, and his beloved wife Sally. He talked about Paul and him dying at 97, and I think he was eligible for full military honors, which I think he chose not to have them. I may be mistaken on that, but he was grateful to move to San Diego area, and his life continued with his staying active. It was a great loss when Sally passed, I was one of the fortunate ones to receive her book he published. I was grateful he enjoyed writing and read a couple of his books, triggering a memory he had mentioned years earlier about writing a book or story and taking it to what was called "the black tower" at Universal. They rejected his story, only later to basically change a little, making it anyway. He was disappointed at how they did it, but went on with his life. Peter was a great influence in my life, I am grateful for the opportunity to have known him. He was one of the bright spots in my life, We were invited to his 100th birthday, regretfully we were unable to attend. I would have loved meeting his family.
I wrote to him a few letters after that, did not hear from him anymore.
I mentioned to him losing a son in 2016, he told me of them losing a son, also. I am sorry for the loss of Peter, and know the world is a better place because he was in it. While losing loved ones is so difficult, I will never close my heart , as the gift they are is worth more than the fear of losing them.
