Ruth Schmitz Obituary

Ruth C. Schmitz, of Poway, CA, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2010, at age 70. She was surrounded by her children whom she dearly loved, unconditionally.
Ruth was born in Carroll, Iowa, to Aloysius and Hilaria (Thelen) Bernholtz. One of ten children, she grew up on a small farm in Willy, Iowa. In June 1957, she married Raymond H. Schmitz of Dedham, Iowa, and moved to Colorado where they raised seven children.
Ruth is survived by six of her loving children, Mary (Brian) Hemen, Randy (Wendy) Schmitz, Stan Schmitz, Ray (Linda) Schmitz, Renee (Dan) Luke, and John (Diane) Schmitz; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Joan (Linus) Eischeid, Norma Willenborg, Don (Beverly) Bernholtz, Jolene (Sully) Guarniere, Janet Pryor, and Paul Bernholtz. Preceding her in death are her son, Kenneth Schmitz; her parents, Aloysius and Hilaria Bernholtz; her brother, Bill Bernholtz; and her former husband, Raymond Schmitz.
Ruth was a gentle, Christian woman, loved by all who knew her. She always had a smile and a listening ear. She enjoyed going to the senior center for fellowship and crafting. She also enjoyed gardening. Above all, she enjoyed time spent with her family. She will be missed by all that knew her.
A Memorial service for Ruth Schmitz will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 11:00 am at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. Interment will follow the service at Dearborn Memorial Park, Poway, CA 92064.
