Walter Cobb Obituary

Walter Cobb was born in Quincy, MA, on January 11, 1933. At 18 he joined the U. S. Air Force and headed west. He spent the next 61 years in California, where he died on September 22, 2012, at the age of 79, surrounded by his family.
Walter graduated from San Diego State University, passed the CPA exam, and started his accounting career in El Centro, CA, in 1964. He then moved to Hemet, CA, where he practiced for over 20 years, focusing on taxes, bookkeeping and estate planning. During these years he was active in the Society of CA Accountants, becoming State President 1986-1987. In 1987 he moved to Rancho Bernardo where he continued practicing until his death. He always said, "I will work as long as I have my health."
He loved the San Diego Padres, sailing, his family, his grandchildren, and music of all kinds, including the Symphony, Pops, Musicals, Opera and Jazz. Because of his love of music, he founded the Santa Ana Music Boosters non-profit foundation in 2006 to support music for underprivileged kids in Santa Ana, where his two daughters work.
Walter is survived by his wife, Rosalie; children, Kathy (Greg), Tim (Lisa), Steve (Chelle), and Laurie; grandchildren, Rene, Chris (Jenny), Adam and Caitlin; and his sister, Billie.
A Catholic Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, October 12, 2012, at 3:00pm at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 13734 Twin Peaks Road, Poway, 92064. A reception will immediately follow in the reception hall.
In lieu of flowers and to celebrate his passion for music, please send donations in his honor to the Santa Ana Music Boosters Foundation, PO Box 4085, Santa Ana, CA 92702.
His remains will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on November 23, 2012, at 11:30am.

Dear Rosie & Family,
We were very surprised to learn of Wally's death. He was always so full of energy that it is had to imagine anything slowing him. He was very active in several professional organizations. I never knew how if found the time and energy.
Wally & I were good friends and fellow CPAs with our offices next door to each other. A couple of years before he decided to give full time to his San Diego practice, we combined our Hemet practices and were partners during that transition.
We remember the children for various reasons. First, Jan & I are Steve's Godparents. Steve, how long does that last? We remember to this day, Cathy's outstanding wedding at the Immaculata Church at University of San Diego. The music will be remembered as long as we have memories. Laurie--I was telling our son Tom about Wally's death and said I was going to contact the family. He said to extend his condolences. And for you Steve, unfortunately we had no kids your age so not the same relationship as your siblings but I am sure you are of the same high quality person.
And Rosie, our best in getting thru this period that none of us look forward to but your strength and family support will get you there.
Our Best, Joe & Jan Pehl

As an attorney, I worked with Wally on many matters. Wally got the big picture on complicated cases, could see the main issues clearly, worked personally with clients to get good results, and had a lively wit and a fun spirit. Wally was a unique individual, and I was privileged to know and work with him.
