Betty Smith Obituary

BOONEVILLE – Betty Jo Smith 74, passed away, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, as the result of an auto accident while traveling to church with her daughter, Deana. Betty graduated from New Site High School and attended Business College of Memphis. She was former owner/operator of Bumkom Hill Grocery store that she ran for years with her husband, Cecil. Betty was a twenty plus year employee of WalMart, and had served on the Prentiss County Electric Power Association Board since 1991. She enjoyed Relay For Life, washer pitching, community events, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and traveled many miles over the years to watch NEMCC Tigers, New Site Royals, Booneville Blue Devils and MSU. Betty was a loving Friend and Mother, but her pride and joy was her Grandchildren. Betty was a member of Marietta Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be today, January 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home with Minister Ronnie Livingston and Minister Rodney Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Allen Line Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Chris Smith (Kim) of Booneville; two daughters, Lane Smith-Roodt (Jan) of Tishomingo and LeeAnn Smith Ross (Eric) of Helena, Alabama; one stepdaughter, Sara Smith Cummings (Harold) of Booneville; four grandsons, Collin Smith and Dalton Ross Smith of Booneville; Lance Ross and Hogan Ross of Helena, Alabama; three nephews, Phil Ward, Mike Ward and Bobby Ward; nieces, Lana Bobbit and Terry Johnson; Host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Smith; parents, Dalton And Grace McGee Ward; brothers, Bill Ward and Gene Ward; daughter, Deana Smith.
Pallbearers will be Phil Ward, Mike Ward, Bobby Ward, Collin Smith, Dalton Ross Smith and Keith Maness.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Marietta Church of Christ, Pinevale Children's Home or American Cancer Society for Prentiss County.
