Cindy Salmon Long

1958 - 2025

PONTOTOC - Cindy Denise (Salmon) Long passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, after a 43-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Despite all she endured, she maintained a cheerful outlook and was often heard telling her family and friends, "You know, things could always be worse!"

Cindy was born to Larry Dale and Frances (Dover) Salmon in Shreveport, Louisiana, on May 30, 1958. She worked for North Mississippi Medical Center as a surgical nurse for many years. After retiring in 1992, due to disability, she shared with others how much she loved being a nurse and missed being able to work. There is absolutely no doubt she was devoted to the care of her patients.

A faithful member of Highway 15 church of Christ in Pontotoc, she busied herself in the work of the church. When she could no longer visit the sick, cook meals or teach Bible classes, as Mark 14:8 states, "she [still did] what she could." She called and checked on those who were sick or shut in. She mailed cards to let others know they were being thought of and prayed for. She did everything she could to remain in service to the Lord.

Cindy is survived by her devoted mother and primary caregiver, Frances Salmon, of Pontotoc, MS; two daughters, Audra (Hunter) Perry of Belden, MS, and Nicole (James) Bush of Murfreesboro, TN; a brother, Brent (Ramona) Salmon; a niece, Emily (Andrew) Wall; a nephew, Ethan (Makaela) Salmon, all of Pontotoc. She found joy in the presence of her three grandchildren, Abigail Grace Jackson, Grayson Hunter Perry and Norah Elizabeth Perry. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Salmon.

All services will be held at Highway 15 church of Christ in Pontotoc, MS. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 1, from 5-8 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 2, from 10-11 a.m. Following visitation, a service will be held in Cindy's honor. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Mark Fitts, Cody Laster, Danny Lucius, Ethan Salmon, Andrew Wall, and Adam Wortham.

Her daughters would like to express their gratitude to a host of home health aides, nurses, therapists, and finally, the staff at Pontotoc Nursing Home for the care extended to Cindy during different periods of her life.
