Georgia Harkness Obituary
Georgia, the youngest child of Katie and Gip Winter, was raised in Algoma, Mississippi. Two sisters, Gara Roye, and Mary Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews survive her. Her other siblings, Herbert Winter, Ernal Tidwell, and Earlene Todd, preceded her in death.
Georgia taught school at New Hope Elementary in Columbus for twenty years and was beloved by her students. She retired in 1996 to care for her husband who was suffering from lung cancer. Georgia took over the cattle farm when her husband passed and was an excellent equestrian. She was an avid fan of exercise and walked many miles before it was fashionable to do so. In later years she took up ballroom dancing and on any given day, you could find her either dancing or working out at the gym.
Funeral services were held at First Ridgeland Baptist Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Georgia was interred in the family plot on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Ecru, Mississippi.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God give you the strength in this time of your great loss. Mrs. Harkness was my youngest son's 2nd grade teacher and loved her but most of all I am from Ecru and James grew up on my road. So sorry to hear this news. Beautiful lady.

I cannot tell you how many times I have thought of you over these many years since we lost contact. Many times I have searched FB in hope of reconnecting.
I am sorry to learn of your Mother's death. I lost my Mother in 2004 and my Daddy in 2010. It's a hard time, I know. Please know that I am thinking of you at this time. Maury and I are leaving town tonight so will be unable to attend visitation or the funeral.
Please help me get back in touch with you. Are you still in DC?
