Mr. James Roland Lyon, 86, passed away on September 22, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mr. James Roland Lyon was born April 27, 1931, in Cedar Bluff, the son of the late George Wilbur and Cora Lee Davis Lyon. Mr. Roland was an United States Army Veteran. He was a retired Rural Mail Carrier with the United States Postal Service working out of the Cedar Bluff Post Office. Mr. Roland was an avid and accomplished woodworker and carpenter that enjoyed making clocks. He was a Master Mason serving with the Pheba Masonic Lodge. Mr. Roland was a lifelong loyal and faithful member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Trustee, Chairman of the Deacons, Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher. He married Bettie June Blue on October 16, 1955, in West Point, and they were married for 61 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson: Joshua Lee Watkins; Sister: Mary Rose Lyon; Brother: George Davis Lyon, Sr. (Mona Manning); and Nephew: Dr. George Davis Lyon, Jr. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. from Cedar Bluff Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Chesser officiating and assisted by Reverend Karl Novak. Burial will follow in Cedar Bluff Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Bluff. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Wife June Lyon of Cedar Bluff; One Daughter, Janet Lyon Watkins (Cliff) of West Point; One Grandson: Jared Watkins of West Point; Niece: Catherine Lyon Chernecky (Dr. Rick) of Ocean Springs and his Nephews' Wife: Cheryl Lyon of Starkville; and many other extended family. Pallbearers will be Henry Applewhite, Chuck Howell, David Waide, Andy Williams, George Bailey, Roland Moody, Scott O'Brian, and David Cochran. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Duncan, Friends and Neighbors in Cedar Bluff, Past and Present Employees of Cedar Bluff Post Office, Former Pastors, Music Ministers, and Deacons of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, and Friends at Campers on Missions.
