So sad to hear of the passing of Del Crandall. He had a lot of great accomplishments. To the family I offer my sympathy.

Growing up in Wauwatosa, WI as a neighbor of Del and his family, I had the honor to work for Del while attending Wauwatosa East High School; I cut/trimmed his lawn, washed his cars/windows and did odd jobs for the family. He mentored me as a student/athlete and often gave me Braves' box seat tickets to attend three World Series and multiple games to each for our family of four. He also offered to write a letters of reference to both the Air Force Academy and the University of Wisconsin for me; both of which, offered me football scholarships. I have fond memories and total respect for Del. I will never forget him for his kindness, professionalism, family devotion and community outreach....he was a great example for others to admire and follow!! RIP Del!!

To the Crandall Family, kindly accept my sincere condolence with the passing of Mr. Crandall. I had the honor of meeting Del at the Boston Braves Historical Association some years ago. He was the hit of the afternoon, a real gentleman, posing for photos and signing autographs for everyone. I have a great photo of Del that means a great deal to me. The last Boston Brave. It had to be Del, a heck of a ballplayer, and as I mentioned, a real gentleman. May God Bless Del and the Crandall Family.

Del was my uncle. I lived in Fullerton until my Dad moved us to Meadow Vista Ca in 1959. I was twelve. I knew my uncle was a ball player but I didn’t know he was one of the greats. In the off season he just worked a regular job. He’d show up at community functions and he was a frequent presenter of merit badges at my Cub Scout monthly awards ceremony. Ran a free youth baseball clinic every Saturday at Amerage {sp} Park. Furnished all snacks and refreshments. I don’t ever recall my uncle turning down any organization that requested an appearance. Always showed up in tie and sports coat to represent his family and Major League Baseball. Remember traveling in 1957 from Fullerton to Milwaukee to see the World Series. Best trip ever. Best uncle ever.

I met Del as he had just come up with the Boston Braves. I was 5 years old I had a foul ball. Billy Southworth was first to sign it. Del was the second to sign Another rookie for the St.Louis Cardinals Red Schoendist was the third .Del was a real GENTLEMAN.I remember him very well . GBY

Del was a member of our Bible Club at Sunrise Senior Living. Prior to the pandemic, he was with us regularly on Wednesday mornings, and it was wonderful to get to know him. He shared with me that he was a Christian, so I know that I will visit with him again someday soon in Heaven.

I have treasured a memory of Del Crandall for more than a half century. My older brother and I met him (and his family) when he parked his car on the driveway that his parents and our grandparents shared. I remember that he was driving a 1953 (I believe) light blue Pontiac. We didn't know it was Del Crandall behind the wheel. We were too busy daring each other to ask the driver to move the car so that we could continue throwing a football across the combined lawns. It took us about two seconds to recognize him (from our baseball cards) and realize that he was probably driving the car that each Brave received as a gift from the fans in Milwaukee after the Braves moved from Boston. Football was forgotten as we took advantage of the situation to meet a favorite player and a neighbor that our grandmother talked about for years. For a guy who had just driven from Wisconsin to California to see his parents, he was extremely gracious with us. He made time for us and even gave us a Boston Braves hat. After that I changed my allegiance from the Brooklyn Dodgers to Milwaukee and my "position" from anywhere-but-catcher to.....catcher. (I even slept wearing a catchers mask. One night.) I eventually went back to the Dodgers. Or, rather, the Dodgers came to me in '58. Del Crandall soon became a fan too when he joined their organization. The last time I saw that Boston Braves hat it had fallen from my knucklehead into a dog pen and was being chewed by our Spaniels.

My condolences to the Crandall family. I played for Del from 1973 through 1975 with the Brewers. Del was instrumental in bringing me to the Big Leagues in 1973 along with some other young players that year. I will always be grateful for his confidence in me and giving me the opportunity. He will be remembered as a great leader and teacher who loved the game of baseball.

Del Crandall wore number 1 on his uniform and proved it on the field and in the rest of his life.
While the posting of his death notice said he was a former Milwaukee Brave, I beg to differ.

The family of Johnny Antonelli (who passed away last year) expresses it deepest condolences to the family of Del Crandall. My father in law always spoke so fondly of Del, he considered him his best friend in baseball. They were two of a kind, such very good men.
Johnny's roommate in Boston in 1948, Del was the first person he told that he had met the girl he was going to marry, my mother in law.

Del, you are among my earliest childhood memories, as I visited aunts and uncles in Boston in the early '50s. Then came the team's move to Milwaukee when I was 6. Then your homer in the World Series win. Then, in the early '80s, you managed the Albuquerque Dukes. Stationed at Kirtland AFB, I became a huge fan of the team. And so Del, you are the Senior player in my Dukes baseball cards collection, and my favorite. You Are A Magnificent Human Being! Rest in Peace.

I had the opportunity to work as a fill-in production assistant for Mr. Crandall and Rory Markas in the visitors' television broadcast booth at Tiger Stadium one August night in what would be the last series in the strike-shortened 1994 MLB season. In the pre-smart phone, pre-internet days, I knew enough about Mr. Crandall to tie him up for ten minutes, but in the service of the situation had to keep it to myself. However contained, I was still struck by the manner of the gentleman during this memorable experience. My condolences to his family, friends and others who grieve his passing.

I am so blessed to have found this sight and read all the beautiful words about my Dad, Del Crandall. I was privileged to be around when Dad played the game. He was treated with such respect on and off the field. He was that good, honorable man his entire life. He finished well. Thank you all for the kind words. God bless.

I remember how good he was with the Braves and also when he played for the Giants. Even if his best days were behind him when he got to the San Francisco, he was still a class act and I am proud that he played for my team.

My grandfather was a detective in the Fullerton Police Department. Del Crandall was from Fullerton and my grandfather might have been his most enthusiastic fan. I never saw him more excited than 1957 and Del's famous home run! Thanks for the memories.

Growing up in the mid-50's Mr. Crandall made me a Braves fan (still am) when he knocked off the Yankees (who were everyone else's favorite team in my Ithaca NY neighborhood. Always found it fascinating that two men named Del were teammates at the same position :)

I remember him well playing for the Braves when I was young. My father was a Photographer with Peter Pan Studios in Chicago when I was growing up, and he use to go to Del's house in Brookfield Wisconsin every year to take pictures of his Kids. Prayers for his family.
