Edwin Ellis Obituary

Edwin R. Ellis loved life and people. He was born on July 2nd, 1944, to Eleanor Herbstzuber and Harold Ellis and passed away in Englewood, Fla. on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 2:10pm.

Ed was a prolific writer who was the Guild Director of the Englewood writers' group for many years, taught creative writing at a community college and a member of the Café Philo Discussion Group. He published many short stories, and a book titled Engaged Possibility, A Model and Bridge for Individual Independence, and won poetry writing competition with his poem about Loui Armstrong.

Ed volunteered with a group in Englewood that provided tech support to seniors. He was always ready to take a call or visit a home to lend support.

Ed was a diehard Cleveland Brown Fan, who cheered on his team with great joy and enthusiasm, although at times he would lose a bet and must put on a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey to appease his Grandchildren.

He loved the sea and sailing, as well as playing chess with friends and family. He enjoyed playing and joking with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Ed was a veteran that served in the Navy from 1961 until 1967.

He is survived by his wife Diana Ellis and his brother Ron Ellis. His four daughters are Jaime Covey (Nathan), Joelle Tessier (Dan), Jill Mahaney (Ed) and Jackie Cser (Larry). His grandchildren are TJ Nesbitt (Ashley), Nicholas Nesbitt (Christina), Amber Nesbitt (Larry), Michelle Cser, Ryan Mahaney, Mathew Quinn (Heidi), Ryen Covey, Locklan Covey, Drew Covey and grand dog Daisey-Mae. His great grandchildren are Charlie Nesbitt, Elizabeth Quinn, Charoline Smith and Anthony Smith.

He will be remembered in love and sorely missed. There are no services scheduled at this time.
