John Tanzer Obituary
John was born January 30, 1927 to Johann and Margaretha Tanzer in Tobelbad, Austria. Right after college, he came to Toronto, Canada then after a few years on to the Detroit area to pursue opportunities in the automotive industry, eventually getting his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and rising to become a Chief Engineer at Ford Motor Tractor.
John is survived by his son Herb (wife Arlene) and relatives in Austria: brother Heinz, niece Grete and nephew Andreas. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Freda, and infant daughter Ingrid.
John was an avid distance runner, having completed over one-hundred 26-mile marathons. Upon retirement, John and Freda became Michigan-Florida snowbirds to enjoy the sunshine and numerous Caribbean boat cruises. His exercise regiment, can-do independent spirit, generosity, and laughter will be remembered.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, February 12, 2023, 1 p.m. at the Captain's Table in the Punta Gorda Fisherman's Village. John will be cremated and then come to final rest next to Freda at Christian Memorial Gardens West in Rochester Hills, Michigan. A memorial service will be held there later, as will a funeral mass at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Clawson, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Humane Society.

I have known John for approximately 30 years, he was more than a friend & neighbor...John and his beloved wife Freida, were family. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face. Always wanted to help. He will be truly missed.
