OTWAY-Dorothy "Dottie" Nichols, 76, of Otway, Ohio passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born June 10, 1946 in Portsmouth to the late Lawrence and Ruth Gibbons Debo.
She graduated in 1964 from Notre Dame High School and started working for Glockner Chevrolet before she was out of high school then went to work for Capital Pontiac Buick. She then raised her family and went to work for Portsmouth Municipal Court for 15 years off and on and the A-Plant and USEC and finally for Attorney Scott Smith until she retired. She loved working with the public and helping whomever she could. She loved to dance, was in a bowling league for many years and a member of Xi Iota Phi Sorority. She liked to play bingo and enjoyed the slot machines whenever affordable. She enjoyed being out in the sun in her pool with her kids and grandkids. Most of their friends called her mom or granny, which she hated. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her two sons, John D. Nichols Jr and Josh D. Nichols of Otway; her daughter, Sheri L. Nichols of Otway; grandchildren, Stacy (Jack) Murphy, Jordan (Joey Shaffer) Nichols, Cody (Ashley Shaffer) Nichols, Maddy Taylor and Tucker Taylor; great grandchildren, Haleigh Swords, Peighton Swords, Landon Manning, Harleigh Swords, Kyleigh Murphy, Jailynn Shaffer, Bryleigh Shaffer and Jameson Nichols; three sisters, Janet Oster of Portsmouth, Susie Glenn of Portsmouth and Mary Louis (Robert) Henessey of Galipolis. Dottie was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Nichols; her parents, Lawrence and Ruth Debo, a sister, Ruth Ann Debo, and the father of her children, John D. Nichols.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday May 17, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway. Burial will follow in Nichols Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
