WEST PORTSMOUTH-Gary Lee Thacker, 77, of West Portsmouth, passed away on November 21, 2021 at his home. He was born on December 26th, 1943, to the late Oscar and Finetta "Helen" (Roberts) Thacker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Thacker, and his sisters, Janet Payton and Jane Yates.
Gary was army veteran of the Vietnam War, an avid hunter & gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Thacker; and children; Paul "Ed" (Joanne) Shonkwiler of Lexington, KY, Candy (Jon) Lett of Ashland, KY, Ronald "Spanky" Thacker of West Portsmouth, and Sherry (Bobby) Cole of West Portsmouth. Gary is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Kassidee, Kristin, and Kaleb Shonkwiler of Lexington, KY; Alexis (Andy) Fiorita and Eli Cole of West Portsmouth; Madison and Spencer Lett of Ashland, KY. He also leaves behind siblings, nieces and nephews, and cousins that he cared for dearly.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday November 24, 2021 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rick Ratliff officiating. Military rites will be provided by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday starting at 6:00 PM.
