Alexander Sunyog Obituary

ALEXANDER SUNYOG Naples, FL / Merrillville/Portage Alexander Sunyog, age 94, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Avow Hospice on December 15, 2008. Born in Gary, IN, he was a resident of Merrillville and Portage, IN, before moving to Naples where he spent winters since 1978. He had retired from US Steel as a supervisor after 42-1/2 years. Alex was a sports enthusiast and an especially avid baseball fan. He will be dearly missed by his children, Margo Pictor, Linda (Alex) Zsidai, Alex (Joyce) Sunyog Jr., and Ron (Martha) Sunyog; sister, Julianna Gennaro; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, with Pastor Leland Holland officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex's memory may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105. Dear Margo: I was sorry to learn that your father passed away. We lived close in Gary, you on Mathews St and I lived on 5th Ave between Hovey and Mathews. I was a Senior at Edison High School when you were in 8th grade. I can remember many summers seeing you Dad cutting the grass at your house with a push mower without a tee-shirt and enjoying the cool of the summer evening. I remember saying "hi Mr Sunyog, how you doing"? He always smiled and said "fine" and kept right on working. You always had the finest yard in the neighborhhod because of your Dad's hard work. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dear Margo, Alex, Linda and Ron,
What wonderful memories I have of your Dad from Grace Reformed Church. Our families shared many good times. Al always had a smile! He and my Dad enjoyed a good game of golf too! May God be with you in the days ahead. Keeping you close in thought and prayer.
