CALVIN C. BURNETT "Mr. B" Gary, Indiana Departed this life on Thursday August 7, 2008. Was born May 13, 1928 to the late Willie and Annie Burnett in West Point, MS. He was one of 15 children. Calvin accepted Christ at an early age joining the Corncob M.B. Church in West Point, MS. He was a faithful and devoted member of Van Buren Baptist Church for over 50 years were he belonged to the Senior Choir until his health failed. He was a retired employee of U.S. Steel Gary works with 30 years of service as a crane man. Calvin was a member of the Knights of Phythians for over 35 years. Calvin was united in holy matrimony to Sallie K. Moore Burnett in 1947 and to this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by wife Sallie, 10 siblings, 1 grandson, Sotero Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory: 4 sons, Willie Burnett, Calvin D. (Marene) Burnett, Lennart (Essedine) Burnett, Sotero Burnett; 2 daughters Vergie Hunter and Loretta Burnett, all of Gary, IN; 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; 1 brother Fred (Canary) Burnett of Gary, IN; 3 sisters, Annie Ross of Gary, IN, Doris (Walter) Harris of Topeka, KS and India Anderson of Buffalo, NY; 1 brother-in-law, Arthur (Eunice) Riddle; 2 sisters-in-law, Edna Pullen and Dorothy Burnett and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Tuesday August 12, 2008 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. Family hour 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Funeral services Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at Van Buren Baptist Church, 2585 Van Buren Baptist Church, Rev. Dwight Mobley officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Hobart, IN. Professional services rendered by Guy & Allen Funeral Directors, Inc.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved father. I will always remember him as a sweet and kind man. As my father would say "My man Cooley", . I had not seen him in a very long time,until I was at home for a homegoing recently and he was with Retta. I'm very glad I got to see him. We had alot of good times on 15th and Taney Place,back in the day and I will always remember your Dad's smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
