Carl Randler Obituary

CARL OSCAR RANDLER ''CHUCK" Age 90 of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at the V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso, IN. Mr. Randler was a lifelong resident of the area. At the age of 2, Chuck's family moved to the family farm in Porter. Church attended school at the Waverly Schoolhouse on Waverly Road in Porter, and later graduated from Chesterton High School in 1934. After high school, he went to work at U.S. Steel as a machinist, where in 1935 he traveled to Bogata, Columbia to work for the steel company modernizing the accessibility to the Nitrate Mines from Donkery to Cable cars. In 1947 he opened Porter Garage in Porter, where he was a mechanic until 1969. He worked for Duneland School Corporation as a school bus driver starting in 1965 for several years. He was owner of Porter Speedwash Laundromat in Porter. After having worked in and out of the family business, Randler's Tavern on Highway 20, now Leroy's, he and his wife Ardie took over the business in 1972 until they retired in 1977. Chuck was a Porter volunteer fireman for 40 fears and served in the capacity of Fire Chief for 25 years. He was Porter's Citizen of the Year in 1982 and along with his wife, Ardie again in 2001! He belonged to the Chesterton Moose Lodge and Isacc Walton League. Chuck and Ardie traveled quite extensively in the Caribbean and also parts of the United States. They travelled to Hong Kong, Tokyo, China and Thailand, which was a trip Chuck really loved even in his final years. He talked of places he would like to visit, never dull, always interesting. Chuck will be missed by his family and many friends. Carl was born in Indiana Harbor, Indiana on February 11, 1914 to the late Mitchell Randler and Bertha Wagner Randler. He was married on April 11, 1940 in Chesterton, Indiana to Ardith (Ardie) Lindquist, who survives of Chesterton, IN. He is also survived by his sons, Carl (Chuck) Randler of East Boston, MA, and John Randler of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Hedy (Peter) Ballestero of Ches-terton, IN; grandchildren, Rebecca Randler of Mesa, AZ; step grandson, Thomas (Penny) Ballestero of Chesterton; step great grandchildren, Blair, Ashley and Austin Ballestero of Chesterton, IN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mitchell "Mike" Randler and William "Bill" Randler; sister, Hedwig (Hedy) Randler, nephew, Robert Randler. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

Regrets to the Family. Chuck was fine man and a good friend It was a privalige to know him and many members of his family of whom He was very proud.
