Dan Molchan and Paul Schuyler had so much influence over so many of us while we were in those formative years playing sports from age 14 to 18. He was, and remains, one of my role models, I remember two or three of us talking to him in the gym one day and asking him where he got that that muscular build and he told us it was just doing lots of push up and other calisthenics. Dan is permanently etched in my memory with a smile one mile wide by one mile long.

Dan was more than a coach and teacher to me, He was my friend and I will miss him. He inspired me to be the best that I could be and will always be my hero. I love you Coach and will never forget you. Rest in Peace and save me a seat.

We called him 'Big Dan'. My wife Phyllis and I moved to Florida and only saw him once more at his grandaughter's wedding. Our home in Valpo was close to his and he welcomed us like old friends. Always generous, we were gifted with young lamb and trout from his pond. He taught me how to make wine and best of all he always had an encouraging word. His knowledge of the Bible was extensive and he always shared what he had come to understand with his friends and neighbors. We can say he 'ran the race', and won. Don and Phyllis

Dans greatest strength, and he had many, was his faith in Jehovah. From this came his true love for his wife, family and friends. My mom and dad are saddened along with my sister Pam and Shawn and I. I will see you again my brother. With strong knees and a youthful joy. Pat, we all love you and pray for comfort at this sad time. May Jehovah bless you and your loving spirit.

Daniel was my driver's education teacher. I remember how kind and encouraging he was to his students. He put up with 4 girls learning how to drive. We made mistakes and he respectfully fixed them. Rest peacefully.

I have heard from family and acquaintances over the years that Dan was a great quarterback at Merrillville High and Purdue University. I still remember Dan coaching the Merrillville basketball team when I was a freshman playing for Lew Wallace in 1964.

Dan Molchan was a all-around great guy! He was my husband, John Shipley's, coach and role model. Dan was instrumental in John receiving
a football scholarship to Ball State University. He made a positive difference in so many lives. He was loved.

I grew up in Lowell. One of my good friends was Kevin. His entire family were good people and I always had a great time. Kevin and I would play guitars together. Good times. Kevin, I am very sorry for your loss. I know you and your family will miss him. God comfort and give you peace.

I played on Coach Molchan’s Lowell High School teams in the mid 1950’s. He ranks with my father and grandfather among my most admired male role models. Over his lifetime, he had a huge, positive influence on many young men and their life’s direction. There Is no finer legacy than that.

Mr Molchan was my football coach, from 60 to 64. A gentleman coach. Great role model. One of about 3 teachers I remember for a good reason.
