JoAnn Johnson Obituary

JoAnn Johnson was born October 3, 1949, in Gary, IN to John 'Oscar' Powell / Lizzie 'Mae' Jones. JoAnn started singing at the tender age of 2 and confessed Christ at an early age at Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Alexander Hardy. She graduated high school from Gary Roosevelt's class of 1967. Later in life she was united in holy matrimony to Wayne Johnson Sr. June 4th 1971 in Gary, IN and to this union 5 children were born. Joann was a psalmist and sang all over the world; she sang in various groups and was the president of her church choir for over 50 years. Joann loved children and was a daycare provider for many years. Joann was preceded in death by her only daughter Waynetta Johnson, father John 'Oscar' Powell, parents Isaac & Lizzie 'Mae' Fuller, mother in love Ruth Johnson. She leaves to cherish her husband Wayne Johnson Sr, four sons; Charles (Ruby) Smith, Wayne (Shalonda) Johnson Jr, Derrick (Shanta) Johnson Sr, Damien (LeToya) Johnson; three siblings; sister Sally Biddings, two brothers; Robert (Liz) Fuller and Isaac Fuller Jr.; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends.

Services will be as follow, Friday May 13th viewing from 12-3 pm at Smith Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home 4209 Grant St. 46408. Homegoing Celebration Of Life Musical, Family Hour 5:00 - 6:00 PM Musical 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Homegoing Services Saturday May 14th 10:00 AM at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church 2075 Kentucky Street Gary, IN 46407 Hollis D. Manna Pastor
