John Wyatt Burns Sr.

1933 - 2021

John W Burns Sr born July 31, 1933 in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Froebel High School in Gary, Indiana in 1951. He enlisted in the us army on July 9 1959 where he did two years of active duty and finished his service in the reserve in 1965. Upon his return he opened Johnny's liquor store. He also pursued a career in the local steel mill where he eventually retired. John was preceded in death by his mother Ida Burns Mitchell and father John Burns and stepdad Nathaniel Mitchell and son John (BO) Jr., and great grandson Reuben Burns. John leaves to cherish his daughters Kimberly Burns, Michelle Green, Venus Burns, Lillie Burns-Williams; Sons Luster Burns and Lee Burns; 1 special cousin Annie Almore, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 9 to 2:00pm family hours 12-2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm all at the Guy & Allen Funeral Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Pastor Willie Weaver, Officiating. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
