To Cheryl and the Maddox Family,
I just heard of Joe's passing from my sister Lynicia Gransberry. I remember Joe and the Maddox family from our early years at Saint's Home. From those early years, it was evident that Joe had a heart for the Lord and that he was going to dedicate his life to Him. Although we have since lost touch, it is no surprise to me that he "ran the race and finished the course". From the comments I have read here, it is obvious that he has left a great spiritual legacy with family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

To Cheryl and the Maddox family: I knew Joe in high school and he was a wonderful person. I know you will miss him, but take solace from the words of the Psalmist in chapter 61:2-4. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
Look to the Lord for strength and encouragement in the days ahead. As he has been to you until this present hour, he will be the comfort that you need to go on. May God bless and keep you all.

To Cheryl & the family, Joe was a good friend & co-worker of mine. I can honestly say that, in the 13 years I've been acquainted with him, he was one of the most decent men I've ever known. I send my deepest, heartfelt condolences to you & to all who knew & loved him. I'll always have fond memories of our trip to a Sox game with my young nephew & Joe's 1st trip to St. Louis, Mo. (my old hometown). We went to the top of the Gateway Arch, took in a ballgame, saw a museum exhibit about Josephine Baker, ate St. Louis ribs & visited my dad at the VA Home. Joe was a great man & I'll miss him tremendously. We can all take comfort in the certainty that he lived a full life in his 52 years and that he's with the Lord. Rest assured that my prayers are with you & the family always.

To the Maddox Family,
Know that Earth has no sorrows that Heaven can not heal.
For Elder Maddox faught a good fight, he finished his course, and he kept the faith. May you find peace in knowing that this old world was not his home and God let him stay only on a loan. And even though family and friends will miss him so, when God issued His summons it was time to go. So be strong in the Lord and rejoice in his life, for here was a man that lived for Christ.

I send my condolence to the Maddox family. Joe Maddox added value to my life. I remember, fondly, the conversations we had on the campus of VU. He and Steve were spiritual anchors for me on many many occasions when I felt the sway and pull of weakness. My prayers are with the family. I am certain Elder Joseph Maddox is in peace.

To Cheryl and the Maddox family. I have so little that I feel I can say at this time. You already know how I feel about you and Joe. I can only relate the words that memories are forever and you have so many to keep you. He was a wonderful brother and friend and will always be missed. Praying for you. Love Michele Towns Howard.
