I am so saddened to learn of the un-timely death of Julie. I was her best-friend in Hickory Hills, IL in 1st grade until she moved with her family to Crown-Point, Indiana. My name is Lorraine Murphy. Julie was a kind, fun-loving gal with a whole lot of personality. Even though we lost touch through the years, I never did forget her and always remembered the special friendship we shared for those few short years. My condolences to the Malkowski family, I remember you all well--You were a loving and close-knit family who always welcomed me to come over and play with Julie, as kids. I am new to facebook, so I was searching some old friends and I typed in Julie's name and learned of her passing. I am so sorry to hear of this terrible loss. Julie was the first person to work with me at Old Glory. She trained me and she was an absolutely wonderful person. I feel awful to just hear of this. Julie never had a bad word to say about anyone. She had an electric personality and a captivating smile. This loss is definitely not deserved, but she will look down on everyone and be the best angel anyone could ever ask for.I am truly sorry.

As I try to grasp the reality of Julie's death, I spent a great deal of time reflecting on time Julie and I spent together over the past few years. Julie's energetic, cheerful, fun loving nature, was what I liked most about her. She was certainly a "glass half full" kind of girl. She could see the bright spot in a pile of mud. Let us celebrate Julie's life the way Julie lived it; full of love, laughter, friends and family.
Please accept these few words as an expression of my sympathy to all of Julie's family and friends. Time heals all wounds, so they say, but the wounds caused by Julie's absence from our lives will take many, many years before it begins to scab. I will always cherish the times Julie and I shared and her memory will live on in my heart.

I remember when the WED department faced some difficult times just like this back in 2004. Our co-worker Bill passed away in October, Vikki lost her father in November, and our secretary had taken another job.
We needed another secretary to fill her place. We contacted a temporary agency and they sent us resumes of secretarial candidates. When we contacted them with our selection we were told that the applicant had been hired full-time with another company, but Julie would be an ideal secretary. Boy! Were they ever right.
I am so happy to have been blessed by Julie's presence. She was such an amazing and caring young lady. I got a chance to see her and give her a hung. I will always love and remember her fondly.

Dear Julie's Family: I didn't know Julie real well, but worked with her at Ivy Tech, mostly over the telephone. She was always so very helpful when I called her to schedule a student for testing. She was out here at the Valparaiso Campus just last Friday to help with a Customer Service workshop - friendly and helpful as always. It is still so unimaginable.
