Margaret Burns Obituary

MARGARET MARY BURNS "Maggie" (nee CURTIS) Lakes of the Four Seasons Passed away Monday, December 11, 2006 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was a longtime area resident and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She retired from the Gary Public School Corporation where she worked as a custodian. Maggie was a member of the Porter County Board of Directors Council on Aging. She served on the Board of Transportation at the Porter County Senior Center, and the Porter County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Advisory Council. She coordinated craft programs at the Friendship site, she was one of the quilters of the quilt depicting Porter County landmarks which was displayed throughout Porter County, and she also coordinated the Teddy Bear & Nutrition Programs at the Friendship site. Maggie enjoyed crafts, fishing, reading and loved taking care of family members. She is survived by 4 children: Charles "Danny" (Kathy) Burns of Clinton, TN, Elaine (Bob) Beluschak of Cape Coral, FL, Margaret "Peggy" (Wayne) Carter of Chesterton, IN, Gregory (Mary) Burns of Crown Point, IN; 4 sisters, Daphne "Lucille", Sun City, AZ, Irene (Johnny) Menig of Manteno, IL, Elaine (Bill) Kuhn of Mokena, IL, Nancy (Len) Danca of St. John, IN; 6 grandchildren: Danny (Amy) Burns, Michael Burns, Candice (Brian) Jones, Matthew (Patty) Carter, Mark Carter, David Beluschak; 3 great grandchildren, Aubrey Burns, Jackson Burns, and Jordan Carter; sister-in-law, Anastasia Nicolai of Rising Sun, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Constantine "Gus" and Margaret Curtis, Gregory C. Burns, whom she married in 1938 in Chicago, IL, daughter, Eileen Patricia Burns, and brother, James Curtis. Funeral services Friday, December 15, 2006, 10:00 a.m. from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 509 W. Division Road, Valparaiso, Rev. David H. Gosnell, officiating. Burial Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, 2-7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St., Crown Point-Winfield, IN and Friday 9:30-10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 501 Marquette St. Valparaiso, IN 46383.
