Morris Lee Joiner

1936 - 2021

Morris Lee Joiner was born to the late General B. & Ira Mae Joiner on August 6, 1936 in Macon, MS. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Prairie Point Baptist Church. He was united in holy matrimony to Wither Jean Sanders on December 22, 1960, to this union four beautiful children were born Larry Joiner, Kimmie Joiner, Maurice Joiner and Anthony Joiner. Morris moved to Gary, IN in 1961, where he began a dedicated career as a crane operator at US Steel from there he worked as a member of the Safety and Security Team for Gary Sanitary District and retired in 2010. He also was a master painter for LB Management. He was a faithful member of Israel CME church, where he enjoyed being part of the Men's group. He had a love for gardening, landscaping, painting and just spending time loving his wife and helping his kids and grandkids any way he could. Morris was preceded in death by his parents General B. & Ira Mae Joiner; sister Dorothy Joiner; brothers Howard Joiner, Ed Joiner, Gene Joiner and Dewitt Joiner. Morris leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life his loving wife of 61 years Wither Jean Joiner; four children Kimmie Vandever, Larry (Carol) Joiner, Maurice (Dian) Joiner and Anthony Joiner; four grandchildren Brandon Vandever, Jaden Vandever, Bianca Joiner and Marcus Joiner; three brothers Joe (Joyce) Joiner, Ernest (Lois) Joiner, Fred (Hazel deceased) Joiner; sister Dora (Sterling) Slayden; three sisters-in-law Lillie Pearl of Gary, IN, Marie Joiner of Macon, MS and Leslie Joiner of Gary, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation Friday, August 20, 2021 from 12 noon to 8:00p.m. with family hours 6-8:00p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 W. 11th Avenue Gary, IN. Funeral service Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00a.m. at Israel CME Church 2301 Washington Street Gary, IN. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery. Mask are required at the Visitation and Funeral Service.
