NORMAN E. SAMUELSON
Age 87, a lifelong resident of Portage went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 2, 2010. He was born on August 7, 1922 in McCool, Indiana the son of William and Esther Samuelson. Norm was a 1939 graduate of Portage Township School. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre and during the Korean Conflict. Norm was married to Wanda C. Trostle in Lake Station on November 26, 1949. He worked for over 30 years as an agent for Standard Oil. He also worked for Culbertson General Store, Cruikshank's Body Shop, Dean's Auto, and as a driver for the Rehab Institute of America. Norm was the longest serving member of the First United Methodist Church of Portage, was very active with the Portage Community Historical Society, was a scout leader, a member of the Optimists Club. He loved woodworking, painting and clock making. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a dear friend to all. Norm is survived by his loving family; wife Wanda Samuelson, Portage, sons Norman (Helen) Samuelson, Lake Wales, NC, William (Deb) Samuelson, Steamboat Springs, CO, Richard (Laurie) Samuelson, Bloomington, grandchildren Ben Samuelson, Rob Samuelson, Nicole Samuelson, and Eric Samuelson, sister Madelyn (Charles) Lorenz, Portage, brother Richard Samuelson, Portage, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn Hamstrom, and his sister Marilyn Samuelson. A visitation for Norman Samuelson will be held from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 5, 2010 directly at the First United Methodist Church of Portage, 2637 McCool Road, Portage. A funeral service for Norman Samuelson will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Portage with Pastor Deb Rousselle, officiating. Burial will be at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Norm's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Portage or the Portage Community Historical Society. I am so sorry to hear of Norm's death. I just learned of it on the day of his funeral. He was a tremendous person and we shall always remember our times together.
