I just came upon Orstens obit. I grew up in Gary and went to Emerson High School and was fortunate to play with Harry Flournoy one year. Little O gave many thrills watching him play at Memorial. Sorry that he passed but he will always be remembered. Thanks Orsten for such great memories

After seeing the movie "Glory Road". The last name Artis is not like Jones or Smith, so I wonder if there is some relation to us. My uncle was Britt Artis, my father was Wilson Ruben Artis. I'm sorry I didn't know my grandfather on that side. I wish I had seen the movie before Orsten passed away. Hope to hear from someone on that side.

I was very sadden to learn of Orsten's passing. We became acquainted as fellow Gary Police Officers. I grew up with the Artis family in East Chicago, a fine family. Orsten was a good and caring person to all. He will be sorely missed.

To the Family,
Artis is at peace. Think of the good times and smile. For comfort read Ecclesiastes 3:1-15,17,19,20,22. Artis & I were in the Bureau together at one time back in the day. May The Creator bring you peace during this time.

As one who attended Horace Mann in the late '50's and early '60's, I well remember Mr. Artis. He was an artist on the basketball court and a whale of a fine competitor. Another of Gary's legend departs and that saddens me. But the memories of the man shall last forever in my memory. R.I.P, Sir.
Sincere condolences to his children but know that you had a special man for a Dad! Yes you did! Cherish the memories.

As one who attended Horace Mann in the late 50's and early 60's, I well remember Mr. Artis from his days on the Froebel basketball team. He was truly an artist with the round ball and a bit of a legend around town back in the day. The only regret is that he didn't play for Mann! Godspeed to you sir. Condolences to your children.
