Paul Villanueva

God took his son, Paul Villanueva, home 25 May 2018. He was surrounded by his family as he lost his battle to cancer. He lived a full, loving 69 years on this earth. He raised 4 children with his wife Rita (Moss), of 45-years; children: Maria Curley (Mike), Laura, Paul (Casey), Anthony; grandchildren: Sean, Matthew, Erin, Kane, Londyn, Aviana & Tristin. Paul served in the Vietnam War. After honorably separating from the U.S. Army he went to work as a pipe-fitter/welder at US Steel, then BP Refinery. He is known for his woodwork, Chaplain/Commander of DAV chapter 102, skydiving, coaching, fishing, boating, hog roasts, world travels, kindness, jokes, friendships, & for many firsts-a shot of tequila. He was also a member of Roselawn American Legion 238 and VFW Post 2724 Survived by his brothers: Carlos Sanchez (Barbara), Nick Villanueva, Conrad Villanueva (Rosa), and Manuel Villanueva; sisters: Carmen Schimke, Lydia Jane Stamate, Rebecca Villanueva; special cousin, Carmen Jimenez and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mom, Soledad Villanueva (Sanchez) and dad, Salvador Villanueva; sister, Lucy Silva; sister-in-law, Patty Villanueva; brothers-in-law: Michael Stamate & Robert Schimke. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Consolation Church (8303 Taft St. Merrillville, IN). Rev. Peter Muha officiating. A visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery (2701 Willowdale Rd., Portage, IN) at 11:45 a.m. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel and Crematory (370 N. County Line Rd., Hobart, IN). D.A.V. service at 6:00 p.m. and Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to DAV chapter 102 or Harbor Lights Hospice.
