Peter Kutsugeras Obituary

PETER GEORGE KUTSUGERAS, JR. Age 45, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident. Peter was a graduate of Andrean High School, Class of 1976. He attended the University of Miami and graduated from I.U.N. He was a member of SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was the owner and former operator of Gold's Gym in Merrillville. He was currently employed as the head strength coach at Valparaiso University. His life was body building. Over the years he won many titles, including Mr. Indiana, Mr. Midwest, Mr. U.S.A. and Mr. World, all in 1988. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter George Kutsugeras. Peter is survived by his wife of 20 years, Vicki (nee Snemis) of Lowell; and his only child, Elena, who he adored. He is also survived by his mother, Dolores Kassner-Masley of Watsika, IL; and sister, Kelle (David) Kutsugeras-Kaufman of Pasadena, CA; and niece and nephew, Josef and Sofi. Also, 3 aunts, Helen Stephens of Crown Point, Mary Kutsugeras of Highland and Mary Willard of Muncie; and many loving cousins. Funeral services Friday, August 1, 2003, 10 a.m. Directly at SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Merrillville, Rev. Theodore Poteres and Rev. James Greanias, officiating. Interment Mt. Mercy Cemetery, Gary. Friends may meet with the family at the Burns Funeral Home (corner 101st and Broadway) Merrillville/Crown Point Chapel on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. Trisagion services Thursday at 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

My deepest condolences to the Kutsugeras family. I too was a classmate of Pete's and a friend of his sister Kelle. Many days of hanging out around Junedale Little League, playing baseball in the summer and playing hockey in the winter. All very fond memories. We'll miss you Petey...

I knew Peter only in Kindergarten. His mom and mine used to take turns taking us to Our Savior Lutheran Church on 45th avenue by Wallace High School. I only knew him a a very young age but for some reason have never forgot as we were best buds. My mother and his were close friends as well. I never knew what had happened to Peter and only found out of his passing just this past weekend, 40 years later. My condolensces to his family.

Darling Pete,

I shall forever be at a loss to tell you what you meant to me as a child.

We had several classes together at good ol' Arthur P. Melton grade school. (I have the pictures to prove this!)

You were kind,sweet, charming and your manners were beyond perfect. You made me laugh and you also charmed every girl that you came into contact with. I shall be FOREVER jealous of those eyelashes of yours and the amazing "lifeforce" that you possess. I am only so very sorry to say, that I did not get to know your wife and child later in your life.

I was so shocked to hear about Pete's tragedy. I met Pete at Gold's. We would always chat. His daughter Elena was the same age as mine. They got together and loved each others company.My heart goes out to the family. You will be missed by everyone at Gold's Gym.

I remember Petey and his sister Kelli when they lived on Madison Street across from Junedale Little League. He was good friends with my brothers Dave and Jeff. He came over to our house after his father died. I'm so sorry to hear his untimely and too early death. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I was deeply saddened upon hearing of Pete's departure. While time has taken us both down our different paths, I have always considered him a good friend of whom I have the up most respect. I was some what consoled in reading that Pete kept living what he loved; family, friends, and bodybuilding. He has definately left his mark on this world through both his accomplishments and all of the people that he has helped along the way. Pete will definately be missed. My condolences go out to his wife Vicky, his daughter Elena, and his beloved family. See you in heaven Pete.

My dad has been friends with Big Pete since I was born 19 years ago. I remember watching the two of them lift weights together in a Gold's Gym back when I was only a couple of years old. We will miss him greatly!

I WAS A CLASSMATE OF PETE'S WHEN I WAS IN 7TH GRADE AT BAILLY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND I HAD A TEENAGE CRUSH ON HIM. WE MOVED TO MERRILLVILLE AFTER THAT YEAR SO I DIDN'T SEE HIM FOR A LONG TIME. LATER ON, MY BROTHER STEVE, BECAME VERY CLOSE FRIENDS WITH PETE WHILE BODYBUILDING AND ENTERING CONTESTS. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT PETE WAS WORKING FOR VU BUT I DO KNOW THAT BODYBUILDING AND HIS FAMILY WERE HIS LIFE AND I KNOW THAT HE TOUCHED MANY LIVES. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED! MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS WIFE, HIS DAUGHTER AND HIS MOTHER.
