Phyllis Erickson Obituary

Phyllis Mae (Bavido) Erickson, 81, passed away peacefully on Fri., July 21, surrounded by her family. Most recently, to be near loved ones, she was a resident of Holland, MI. She was born in St. Joseph, MI, on Dec. 5, 1941, where she lived until she married her high school sweetheart, on July 7, 1962. They then spent a short time in Eureka, CA, before settling in Grand Ledge, MI, where she spent most of her life and raised her two children. She is survived by her husband, George Willard Erickson, Jr., of Holland, MI; children, Kimberly Anne (David) Walstrom and Michael Erickson, both of Holland, MI; grandson, Joseph (Shelby) Peiffer and two great-grandchildren, of Zeeland, MI; siblings, Sandra Katowich, of Mishawaka, IN and Sam (Sheila) Bavido, of St. Joseph, MI; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was feisty, caring, stubborn, sweet, and funny. She loved to cook, listen to Elvis, fiddle in the garden and yard until everything was "just right," spend time with her family, watch her favorite television shows, and play endless hands of cards. Her family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Holland Hospital for their compassion and kindness in making her transition a peaceful one. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 12 PM until 3 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A private burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Those wishing to share a memory or sign Phyllis' Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

My older sister, Pat Bischoff Hanner, and Phyllis were always running around during the St. Joe High School years and spending a lot of time at each others house. They were best of friends and "Wild and Crazy Gals".
I was the little brother but loved it when Phyllis came over to visit. The whole family laughed all the time whenever they were together.
We are saddened by your loss, but I know the coming reunion will be so sweet.

Leo and I enjoyed playing cards with George and Phyllis for years. Every time I hear a bebop song from the 50´s I think of them dancing and how good they were together. Even though I haven´t seen Phyllis in a few years, I have always felt her friendship. I will miss knowing she is around to talk to.

Many many great memories of gatherings at Phyliss and Georges home in Grand Ledge. Friends, cards, snacks and beverages with lots of laughs. Truly a wonderful friend.
