Sadye Moore Obituary

Sadye P. Moore age 97 of Gary, Indiana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at home. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Carthage, Mississippi. She attended Piney Woods Country Life School in rural Mississippi and received an honorary high school diploma. She has been a member of First Church of Gary, Indiana since 1954. There she was active and enjoyed her duties with the Matrons Welcoming Club and later with Bessie Griggs Ministry. Sadye Pankey Moore was a founding member of an all-female band that was founded at Piney Woods in 1937. She was modest about this experience but valued it as a high light in her life. She was proud to present when the international Sweethearts of Rhythm were honored at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. in March 2011. Sadye was married to George Moore Jr. for 24 years. They were blessed with four children, two loving daughters Claudia D. May (Arthur deceased) and Celeste Hatcher (Gregg deceased); two sons both deceased Sidney E. Sims (Ruby) and Wayne F. Moore. She greatly loved and was loved by her grandchildren China (Terrence) Harper, Capri (Bryan) Heintz, Christopher (Lovelie) Mitchell Richard Gary (Andrea)Hatcher; great grandchildren Brittany Mitchell, Dayne and Addison Heintz, Destiny and Taranee Harper and Richard Cook Hatcher; great great grandson Da'Marion and a host of other relatives, friends and loving neighbors that will truly miss her. The family is planning a private celebration of her life at a later time.
