Tracy Page Obituary

T. E. Page was his formal title but his family and friends called him Tracy. Tracy was born January 14, 1954 in Stuttgart Germany, as his father was in the Army and assigned there. He was reared in Highland Park, IL, and attended Highland Park High School and then the University of Illinois-Champaign. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University-Bloomington. He honored to attend Oxford University. Tracy started his career as a Prosecutor in Lake County, IN. Afterwards he became a Magistrate of the Lake Superior Court, and continued in that role from October 1984 to December 2000. For many years he was a valued employee of the law firm Cohen and Thiros. Tracy went on to become a Senior Judge and was very proud to serve in that capacity. Tracy also spent time in Reno, NV as a teacher at the National Judicial College. He also continued to serve as a part-time judge through the state's Senior Judges Program. Tracy also worked for the Lake County public defender's office and had put in his letter of retirement Tuesday, said Marce Gonzalez Jr., chief public defender. He was expected to leave the office by the end of the month, as he had planned to spend more time working as a senior judge and teacher. Tracy had served as president of the Association of Indiana Magistrates, treasurer of the Lake County Bar Association, vice president of the Calumet Council of the Boy Scouts of America and president of the South Lake County Bar Association. Tracy was an Eagle Scout, earning every merit badge available; the Silver Beaver, and an Honor Vigil in the Order of the Arrow. In his later years he took an avid interest in the Freemasons and was raised to the degree of a Master Mason May 27, 2015. In the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend he was a High Priest of Jerusalem. At the time of his death, was the Worshipful Master of the M.L. McClelland Masonic Lodge #357 in Hobart, IN. Tracy was an extrovert who loved to travel and meet new people. He had the ability to talk to anyone and know them within minutes. Tracy was an "IndyCar" enthusiast, and an avid bird watcher who found joy sitting on his porch enjoying his feathered friends. He is survived by his partner: Kevin Swanson; two brothers: Paul (Sally), Chuck (Diane); one sister: Patti; as well as six nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; his lifetime friends: the Horan Family; and countless friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Scottish Rite Dyslexic Centers or The Shriner's Children Hospitals. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Avenue, Crown Point, IN from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the M.L. McClelland Masonic Lodge #357, 219 Center St., Hobart, IN 46342 at 10:00 AM. Services will conclude at the Lodge. Tracy and I were pranksters together in 3rd grade at Wayne Thomas in Highland Park. We were even sent to the principal's office together! I ran into him at my 20 year high school reunion and we spent the rest of the night laughing. RIP dear Tracy.

I was one of his 1st court reporters when we were all so young at Lake County Superior Court. I am so sorry to hear of his sudden demise. He was very kind to me as I was pretty much an introvert. He made me feel very welcome in a somewhat intimidating environment, and for that I will always be grateful. Rest in Heaven, Dear Ted.

I met Tracy in 1970. I was an exchange student in his home. I had the greatest time in my life with his Mom, Dad and Sister Patti. He visited me in Germany some years later. Unfortunately, we lost contact. Just by incident I learnt today about his tragic death which leaves me shocked. The photos show us in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and with trip in Germany where he stayed with my family.
My deepest condolences to Kevin, his siblings and all who knew him well and loved him.
Patti, if you read this please contact me.

I met Tracy in 2017 when he and his brother Paul came to the Speedway Masonic Lodge. Paul was speaking after the Indy Grand Prix at a DeMolay dinner at the Lodge.

Though as then master of Speedway Lodge I had one of the two best seats in the house (I got to sit next to Paul), I found Tracy very interesting as well as he was so personable and easy to talk to. He's one of those people who gave me a feeling I had known him for years. And being a fellow attorney and Mason gave us even more in common to talk about.

You meet many people in life during your travels, often for only a few seconds or minutes. And occasionally, some stand out for the right reasons. If you are lucky, you have the opportunity get to know the ones who stand out. Though I only met him once, I still consider myself lucky in that I got to meet Tracy at all. He is one person whom I would have been thrilled to get to know better and be able to call him a friend.

It's an extra shame and it exacerbates the loss when people who stand out above the rest are taken from us. I think the world, Masonry, legal community, and northwest Indiana are a little less bright without Tracy in it. I hope that in the months since his passing that his family and closest friends have been able to get some comfort and closure, and those that knew him can keep his memory alive.

Tracy helped me when I needed it most. He was such a light to those who were in darkness. He was a great attorney, a great man, and an answer to prayers when all seemed hopeless. I will never forget how he helped us. I will never forget how kind and understanding he was. I am devastated for your loss. I hope and pray you find peace during this horribly difficult time. May you never forget the positive impact he had on lives. Hold on to those good memories. Cherish them and keep them close to your heart.

Tracy was one of my leaders in Boy Scouts in the 1960's when he was a year older than me. He encouraged and helped me to take on major challenge as a young leader.

We became close friends in high school going on dates together and sharing challenges of growing up and inventing ourselves.

May his memory be for a blessing.

I met Tracy thru our ancestry interest we found we are 4 th cousins as we share the same great grandfather x 6 George Barge Page. Tracy's dad's work is significant and his notes are in a box in the attic per Tracy. I hope the family will resurrect the work. Throughout our conversations, Tracy was so open and friendly. You recognized his kind spirit thru his email!! His father drew the family history together by visiting Dauphin County frequently and uncovering great history. I am so sorry for your loss and my prayers for your strength to proceed in success in life are sent your way.
From my family to yours (yes as Illinois cousins), our deepest condolences

August 23, 2018

I only met Tracy once. My sister was throwing a Christmas Party for my brother-in-laws (Carl Froedge) lodge, ML McClelland Masonic Lodge #357 in Hobart, and I was there to help out. I remember Tracy jumping right in and trying to help us set everything up. He then went outside to shovel the snow off the sidewalks, for everyone attending the event. When he came back in, he came up to me with a kitchen towel and asked if I would mind brushing the snowflakes and water off of the back of his black dress pants. I still laugh when I think about it, because that's the memory I have of meeting him .. brushing off the back of his pants with a kitchen towel. He seemed like a very nice man, and my heart goes out to his family and friends at their tragic loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I have known Tracy for but a few short years. But, during that time, I got to know Tracy very well. He was one of the best men I know. He was very passionate about life. The way felt about his life as a Lawyer, a Judge and a member of the Judicial Community. Tracy's passion also extended into his activity in the Masonic Fraternity. That is where I became aquatinted with him. He was the Sitting Worshipful Master of M. L. McClelland Masonic Lodge in Hobart, Indiana. His passing will leave a real void for all who knew him.
