Vernetta Ann Thomas (Cat) age 68 was born October 11, 1952 in Gary, Indiana to Timothy McNeil and Reatha (Thomas) Johnson. She attended Roosevelt High School, class of 1971. She did work at LCAR in the early 70's. Vernetta accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was a former member of Mizpah 7th Day Adventist Church where she song with the chancel choir. Vernetta departed this life on Sunday, January 24, 2021, from Golden Living Nursing Home in Merrillville, Indiana. Preceded in death by parents Timothy McNeil and Reatha Johnson, sister Marybelle Williams, granddaughter Sharon Thomas, nieces; Fayrina Steele, Pamela Steele and Kelly Kirkwood; nephews James Cochran, James Steele, and Kevin Steele and 3 great nephews Richard Gunn, Shannon Payne and Mark Douglas Jr.Vernetta is survived by son Eddie Thomas, granddaughter Arlicia Thomas, two sisters Leola Jones, Ethel Kirkwood; nephews Michael (Lolita)Jones Sr., Leonard (LaShawn) Jones Jr., Gregory (LaDonna) Steele Shaka (Akili) Shokur and Anthony Steele; niece Sabrina Kirkwood, great nieces LilTanya Steele (Lemund Mayberry) Candance Steele, LeAisha Steele, Antionette Steele, Nadia Jones, Lauren Jones, Kaylin Jones Alexis Jones; great nephews Anthony Kirkwood, Mason Henderson, Michael Reese, Michael Jones Jr and David (Lesile-Spires) Johnson and a host of great-great nephews, cousins other relatives friends. Visitation Friday, February 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. all services at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park. Due to COVID-19 mask and social distancing is required.
