Alex Rathe Obituary

Alex Gregory Rathe

Neenah - Alex Gregory Rathe, age 32, passed away peacefully due to Covid-19 on July 24, 2021 at his home. Alex was born on October 17, 1988 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to his parents, Ross and Mary Kay (Sosinsky) Rathe. When he was one year old, his family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where he later graduated from Lourdes Academy in 2007.

He married his soulmate, Meredith, on October 12, 2019 and welcomed his beautiful baby girl, Madison, into the world in the summer of 2020. Two of Alex's proudest moments were getting to marry the love of his life and becoming a father.

Alex truly impacted every single person he met with his bright big smile, quick wit, sense of humor, compassion for others, willingness to help anyone, and radiating positive personality. He had a love for the Minnesota Vikings from a young age that he inherited from his father, Ross. He enjoyed spending his Sundays watching football with his friends and family and making them his "world famous" stir-fry. Alex worked in the banking industry and his passion for technology and helping others led him to pursue a degree in information technology.

He is survived by his wife Meredith Rathe, daughter Madison Rathe, parents Mary Kay Rathe and James Barthels, brother Brody (Lindsey) Plantenberg, sister Haley Rathe, nieces Ava and Bella Plantenberg, parents-in-law Timothy and Melody Manion, and brother-in-law Sean (Amber) Manion. He also had many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends that he loved, and who loved him dearly.

Alex was warmly welcomed into heaven by his father, Ross Rathe, who had passed away when Alex was young. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Rathe, and grandparents Alois and Monica Sosinsky and Blanche Barthels.

On Monday, August 2, 2021, there will be a visitation at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI beginning at 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral mass beginning at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/8a562a14 that has been set up to help his family during this difficult time.

Dear Mary Kay and Jim and Meredith and Madison & family, Adam and I speak of Alex's untimely passing with much sadness throughout the year but especially at the anniversary of his wedding and then his passing 2 years later. It's unbelievable!!! The tears still come as it's so hard to fathom that he is gone from sight and so many other harsh realities of trying to understand why his life was taken when he had so much to live for. With the Love you have for Alex he will always be remembered and with those cherished memories of his life, he will live in your hearts forever. May God continue to watch over and guide your family through these difficult times. Take care.

Barely a day goes by,
when I don't think of this wonderful guy.
It's been a year that he has been gone from sight,
But his memories linger with his radiant light.
His life was taken way too young
With Meredith & Madison his family life had just begun.
The sadness I feel for his loving family,
The heartbreak is real & the grief is plenty.
Our son Adam misses him so,
They were friends forever, a devastating blow.
Different places I see where you used to be
Leaves me sad and reflect on a memory.
May your perpetual light forever shine,
in another place more beautiful and divine.
God's Blessings to your families
As they carry on with their lives with only their memories.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Alex’s passing. I enjoyed having him stay with us as a young child when we lived in Oshkosh. He was such a little gentleman. I’m sure he grew into a kind man and will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry for the loss your family is going through. I have known Alex since he was a toddler and I babysat for him. I'll never forget Alex and his favorite Puffalumps! He always had a wonderful smile to share with everyone! My heart breaks for all of you! I know Ross is with him and they both will watch over Madison.

Dear Mary Kay, Jim, Brody, Haley, and Meredith, our hearts are filled with immense sadness & sorrow that Alex has passed away. It´s unbelievable and we still can´t grasp the reality of it. We have known Alex since he was 7 years old. The first time I had the pleasure of meeting Alex was at St Elizabeth Seton school. When the 1st day of school was over, Adam introduced me to this handsome smiling lil boy named Alex & they developed an instantaneous bond of friendship that has lasted till death do they part. Your loving son, brother, husband, father & Adam´s longest best friend will be missed by all that knew Alex. He had an infectious smile and a zest for life. Alex´s life was taken way too young. A prayer for Alex:
Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight; must leave us and the world we know without their radiant light. But we know that like a candle, their lovely light will shine, to brighten up another place more perfect, more divine. And in the realm of Heaven where Alex will shine so warm and bright, Alex will live forevermore in God´s eternal light.

I worked with Alex at the Olive Garden and he very easily became my favorite person there. He was fun, bright, and so witty. I enjoyed eating dinner after our shifts together and miss all of the shenanigans we had in the wings/kitchen. He was such a wonderful soul.

My prayers go out to his family - especially to his beautiful wife and baby girl.

Rest Easy, Alex.
