I was saddened and surprised to learn about Barbara's passing today. My sympathies go to John and Barbara and John's children and grandchildren. Barbara and I were both counselors at Fox Valley Technical College in the 1970's and 80's. I also worked with her in AAUW when she was the Wisconsin State President and I was President of the Milwaukee branch. She was a wonderful lady who will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her.

My beautiful Aunt Barb! You taught me how to make Christmas bows, belt out a song from a musical (I remember your attempts to explain the meaning of Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair...), took me on wild rides in your fancy convertible and for slow ones on the Como Park tortoise. You made matching bedspreads and curtains for my sister Lynne and me, coats, dresses, purses and later taught me to sew. And you were the one who talked my mother into letting me shave my legs! I am forever indebted to you!
Just days before your hospitalization, we shared texts about books we were reading, InstantPots, Pinterest and recipe sharing. You touched my life in ways I never knew until you were gone and I miss you dearly.
This week we will celebrate Winter Solstice and thank our ancestors for all they sacrificed for us, for all we learned from them - and still learn- and for the joy they brought to our lives. Your precious self will be included this year. I only hope you can look down on me and take some pride in the woman you helped create. I know there are many many jewels in your crown in heaven. You shall be forever treasured.

John, Brian, & Julia...please know our sympathy and thoughts are with you. As your neighbors, we have many memories of fun times together. As a colleague of Barb’s at FVTC, there are also memories of the work there that we did together. We are so sorry for your loss. With thoughts and prayers,

I had the privilege to work with Barbara at FVTC for several years. She was an advocate for her students; she also was a strong supporter of the underprivileged. Besides her great impact on staff and students at FVTC, Barbara lent her time and talents to many roles in AAUW over the years . My condolences to John and the rest of the family. RIP my friend.

As a professional working at a sister Wisconsin Technical College, I grew to know Barb with admiration and respect. What she did on behalf of so many others during the course of her career is priceless.

She was almost 4 years younger than I am. We used to play with our dolls in the spirhea bushes in front of our house in Worthington. She was really good at math and I wasn’t. I was very jealous. I will miss her desperately.

I met Barb in early 1974 after moving to Appleton and joining AAUW. I worked alongside her in various capacities in the community & quickly saw the dedication, determination, enthusiasm, and hard work ethic she poured into everything in which she was involved. We were FVTC colleagues for many years, and her impact on and concern for helping students is well-remembered.
For many years, John and Barb lived
close to my home, and I purposely included their street on my walks, hoping to find Barb outside where we would enjoy a lively
conversation and many laughs!

Rest in sweet peace, treasured friend, your work here on earth may be finished, but I know there is much more ahead for you! ❤

A wonderful friend since we met at South Dakota State in 1956. I will sorely miss our almost daily email chats. Barb was a wonderful lady!
