Brian Lauterbach Obituary

Brian Lauterbach

Chicago - Brian Lauterbach died unexpectedly at his home on February 1st in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 45.

Brian was born on September 7, 1975 in Neenah. He attended Neenah High School until graduation, enjoying membership in the "Vintage Swing Choir" and continued his education at UW - Eau Claire until 2000 with his major being Political Science.

Brian was active in the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in February 1990 at the age of 14. He spent two of his high school summers as a leader working at Boy Scout camps assisting and teaching the weekly attendees.

A successful entrepreneur in the non-profit fundraising areas, he was the founder of DonorPath, and a former Network for Good executive, and his current position at Children First Fund, the small nonprofits trying to change the world. He quite literally spent his entire adult life working with and for these organizations. More than anything, Brian will be remembered for the sincere passion he had for the customers these non-profits companies served.

Brian was a larger-than-life personality with a great sense of humor, a creative mind, and an amazing ability to get things done. He was a driven man with a big heart, a passion for the nonprofit sector, and a loyal mentor to those who had the privilege of working with him.

Brian is survived by his Father, Wayne Lauterbach of Neenah, stepmother Sue Lauterbach, and his Aunt, Jean Koller (Jeff), his Mother's twin sister of Black Creek, and close friend Christian Altman of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Judy Lauterbach-Muggenthaler of Appleton, Wisconsin.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held later. More information for this memorial will be available from the family later in the spring.

I have many memories of Brian. Many wonderful ones. There are so many to share. He came back into my life in 2015. Then his mother, my twin sister, Judy, passed away 10/7/2016. So Brian was there for me like no one else. It was then that I knew we would be together from that time on and we were. The years I spent with Brian were some of the best years of my life. We shared a love for each other.

The last place of employment for Brian was Children's First Fund and they started The Brian Lauterbach Foundation. Today I found out that they have enough funds for a scholarship, the first among many I am hoping.

Brian you were my nephew and more like a son to me. We did so many wonderful things together traveling, going to tennis tournaments, going to concerts, the symphony, Grant Park Festivals. The most enjoyable times for me was just being together. I will cherish our memories forever.

Brian burst into my life with the same amount of energy and joy he brought to every day of his life. I worked with him at Network for Good and he taught me to take risks, to speak up, and to do the job I was capable of. The world isn't as bright without Brian in it. He will be missed.
