Toschik, Bro. Cyrus (Jerome) OFM Cap.

Bro. Cyrus (Jerome) Toschik, OFM Cap., died on Thursday May 9, 2013 at the age of 92. Bro. Cyrus was born on December 15, 1920 in Milwaukee, the son of the late George and Catherine (Derler) Toschik. He was one of ten children. While in the U.S. Coast Guard (1942-1945), a priest invited him to consider the seminary. Bro. Cyrus began his religious life as a novice in Huntington, IN and continued his formation in Garrison, NY. He was invested in the Capuchin Franciscan Order on August 31, 1947 and perpetually professed on September 17, 1951. Bro. Cyrus returned to Huntington in 1951 and ministered on the friary staff for five years. In 1956, he joined the staff at the friary in Appleton, serving the community there for four years before being transferred to the Capuchin friary in Baraga, MI where he served for six years. Bro. Cyrus returned to Indiana and ministered at the Capuchin seminary at Crown Point for a year before returning to ministry in Baraga. He served short stints again in Huntington and Milwaukee until 1971, when he was assigned to the staff at St. Anthony Retreat and Spirituality Center in Marathon, WI. Bro. Cyrus ministered there from 1971 until 1995, when he retired to St. Fidelis Friary in Appleton. Throughout his life, his ministry was to cook for his Capuchin brothers. Bro. Cyrus resided at the St. Paul Home in his last years.

Cyrus is survived by his sister, Catherine Tilson of Humble, TX.

Visitation will be held Monday May 13, 2013 at MONTE ALVERNO RETREAT CENTER (1000 N. Ballard Appleton) beginning at 5:00 p.m. until time of wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at MONTE ALVERNO RETREAT CENTER beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
