Vogel-Gray, Claudia

Claudia Dell Vogel-Gray, age 82, of Appleton passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. She was born February 22, 1931 daughter of the late Arthur and Tess (Fries) Gerl in Black Creek, WI.

Claudia graduated from North High School in Sheboygan in 1950. In 1951 she graduated from the Cradle Hospital School of Evenston, IL.

Claudia worked at Theda Clark Hospital in the nursery, Wolfreds, Carlson's Closet, Westover House and volunteered at Memorial Park Arboritum Gardens Gift Shop and Community Clothes Closet.

She was married to James C. Vogel in 1951. On October 1, 1991, she was united in marriage to Allen Gray. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2006.

She is survived by her seven children: Vicky (Bill) Sherry, Three Lakes, WI; Steven (Casandra) Vogel, Castle Rock, CO; Chris Michael (Alicia) Vogel, San Antonio, TX; Connie (Al) Hesselink, Princeton, WI; Joseph Vogel, Anthony (Martha) Vogel and John (LuLu) Vogel, all of San Diego, CA; step-son, Robert (Earlene) Gray, Stratford, Prince Edward Island, Canada; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, John, Jesse, Shawn, Gina, Jasmine, Alexandra, Jonathan, Makenzie, Mathew, Tristan; 1 great-grandchild, Noah; also survived by sisters: Audrey Johnson and Jean Lindahl.

Preceded in death by her parents Tess and Arthur Gerl, brother Arthur Gerl, husband James Vogel and husband Allen Gray.

Friends may call at Sacred Heart Church, 222 East Fremont Street, Appleton on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. with Father Rene Balbero officiating.

Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Our loving mother left behind children who will miss her so very much along with many dear friends who blessed Claudia's life to the fullest. Claudia is now in heaven with Our Heavenly Father without any pain. Claudia's children are grateful to all of mom's friends and the caring doctors and people at ThedCare Hospice and the wonderful nurses and staff.

Claudia was a special friend with all of us who worked at Westover House, when it opened and long after it closed. We all bonded well. Caudia always felt there was "good" in everyone. She will always be in my heart as a very special friend.
