His vibrant past history includes playing drums in Hollywood with famous artists and music legends, performing in movies, as a studio musician, and on national TV programs as well as working as an award winning film and video producer/director and as a professor in higher education in Colorado.

His music education began at age eight studying piano for two years then transferred to playing drums at age 10. Don played in a Scout Drum Corps from age 10 to 15. After an honorable discharge, he went back to Wisconsin and began playing with a Rockabilly/Rock&Roll group called Jerry Cole and the Flaming Coles. Not agreeing with Wisconsin weather, he packed up and headed west three months later.

In Los Angeles, Don worked as a studio musician playing drums and recording with numerous hit artists and music legends such as Ricky Nelson, Frankie Avalon, Glen Yarbrough, Mason Williams, Joe & Eddie, Del Shannon, The Id, Nino Tempo and April Stevens, Sonny James, and the Smothers Brothers.

Don was one of my early mentors and gave freely of his time. We used to catch Don Playing with John Harmon at the Pioneer club. We would flood him with drum questions and he would finally say " There is more to life than Boom Chick ".

Always smiling and always busy . . . I miss all the late nite talks in the Beetle. God
Bless and Keep you Don.

Growing up in Appleton, Donnie and I were actual cousins and informal "kissin' cousins." We were always so very much in awe of his enormous talent on the drums. I can close my eyes and still hear some of his thrilling performances while he was in Appleton. Never got to see his performances with national music personalities but we were always aware of his success. Then when he left the entertainment field, he admirably went on to earn a doctorate degree, becoming a well-known academic in Colorado. Sorry to say we kept in touch only through annually exchanging Christmas cards, and I regret not having told him many times how impressive he was in his chosen careers. My condolences to Sandy, their children and Don's sisters and brother.
