Eugene Allen Obituary

Allen, Eugene Edward

Eugene Edward Allen, age 84, passed away peacefully at home. The memorial service for Gene will be Saturday, May 11, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Revs. Mark Geisthardt and Tony Fuller officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 10, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home, and again from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the hour of the service at the church.

Gene was born in Wausau, son of Elsie and Charles Allen, one of seven children. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1947 and the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1951. He went to work for Marathon Corp. in their finance department, and served in the United States Army, U.S. Finance Corps in Europe from 1952-53. He returned to Neenah and worked for American Can for 39 years.

He married Donna Christensen in 1951. They have three children: Kristine Allen Peppler (Walter), Madison, Thomas Allen, Appleton, and Timothy Allen (Stacy), Waukesha. He was a loving husband and father. He delighted in being a grandfather to his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers and has a surviving sister, Betsy Ives in Alaska, nieces and nephews.

In 1955 at the age of 26 Gene was paralyzed with polio confining him to a wheelchair. After a year of therapy at Warm Springs Polio Foundation in Georgia he was able to return to work and support his family. He has been an inspiration to many.

Gene loved playing with his grandchildren, always ready for a game of cards, coffee with friends and neighbors, and visiting with his tax customers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 108 W. Doty Ave., Neenah, 54956, or a charity of choice in Gene's honor.

Thank you to Affinity Hospice Home Care for their assistance.

This was my Grampa. He was amazing,he always was willing to play cards and tell his grand kids stories. One of my favorite stories was when he told us that when he was younger he was a red headed girl and owned an alligator. My Grampa was an inspiration to many. He will be missed.

Donna and family, my dad and I offer our deepest sympathies. We worked indirectly with Gene at American Can and yes, he was an inspiration to everyone that met him and he had a wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life. God bless you all. Gene is now walking with Our Lord. On behalf of Clayton Gardinier and myself (formerly L.Mickelson),

Donna, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Having recently also losing my husband of 45 years, I think I have a good idea of what you and your family are going through. Always loved talking with Gene and he will be a great loss to everyone. God be with you and your family.

Our deepest sympathy to the entire Allen family on the passing of Gene! What a guy, what an inspiration and encouragement to all those he came in contact with. He was an overcomer like no one else I have ever met. May the Holy Spirit embrace each of you whenever the grief gets too much; each one grieves in a different manner and mourning takes as long as it takes. Our love and prayers, Marshall & Vanice Schultz
