Evelyn Konkel Obituary

Evelyn Ann Konkel

Evelyn Ann Konkel passed away on Saturday evening, September 29, 2012 at Theda Care Hospice Residence after a brief illness. She was born in the Town of Amherst to Edward and Hattie (Strauss) Lutz on February 18, 1923. She graduated from Amherst High School and then the county Normal School and later took courses at UW Stevens Point. She taught at Boulder Junction, Amherst, and Neenah Schools. She married Ernest Konkel on November 24, 1943 and they had 50 years together. He died January 31, 1993. She was a charter member of Martin Luther Church in Neenah.

Evelyn is survived by a brother, Edward (Helen) Lutz of Amherst Junction; a sister, Lorraine Price of Santa Barbara, California; a brother-in-law, Leonard Konkol of Stevens Point; nieces and nephews; and Francis Zeller, who made the last year of her life so very happy. She also enjoyed the many friends she made through her church, card clubs, book club, the exercise facility at Kimberly-Clark and the many friends she met when going dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brother-in-law Roy Price, her parents-in-law, John and Mary Konkel; and her husband's siblings.

A special thanks goes to: Ken and Kris Price for coming from San Diego, and John and Jenna Price for coming from Santa Barbara and for bringing Lorraine to say "goodbye;" Ted and Anna Sanderson for the many years of friendship; Jim and Carol Konkol for helping the years that I was alone; and Patricia Boushley, my "adopted sister."

The Christian Funeral Service for Evelyn will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Luther Church, 436 S. Lake Street, Neenah, with Revs. Jason Oakland and Richard I. Krahn II officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Neenah Public Library, 240 E. Wisconsin Ave., Neenah, WI 54956 or the Community Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1534, Appleton, WI 54912.

Mrs Konkel was my first grade teacher at Vining School a one room schoolhouse grades 1-8. I didn't know she had passed. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends. She was one of my favorite teachers.

Remembering you fondly Evelyn, as a neighbor and as a teacher when my children were young. And we seemed always to be on the same exercise schedule.
